Clinic Do's and Don'ts

  • Do feel free to inform family members and friends.  Our objective is to fill the appointment times so our students will have plenty of “hands on” experience.
  • Do arrive early.  Arriving 10 minutes before your appointment time allows time for check-in, payment, and the preliminary interview.  Since these procedures have to be done, arriving on the hour will take time away from your actual massage.

  • Do enter the school by the main front door and remember to be as QUIET as possible so as not to disturb the other massages.

  • Don't bring infants or small children.  We do not have provisions for child care and children may not be left unsupervised.

  • Don't wear jewelry and watches - these items will need to be removed for the massage, so it is best to leave your valuables at home.

What to Expect from Your Student Massage Therapy Session:

  • 50-Minute Swedish Massage (Students do not perform deep tissue, neuromuscular, or medical massages)
  • Client Assessment / Interview
  • Professional Draping at All Times
  • Highest Hygiene and Universal Precaution Standards
  • A Supervisor Will Enter The Room Once During Each Session.
When NOT to Receive a Massage:
Student massages are performed in a teaching environment as a learning experience for the student so clients must be in reasonably good health or have a condition that does not require a doctor's approval to receive massage. You should not receive massage therapy if you:
  • have a fever
  • have a contagious rash (poison ivy, fungal infection, etc.)
  • have any type of infection
  • are incapacitated to travel

If you are not sure whether or not a particular condition is appropriate, simply call our office before the appointment, and someone will help you make an educated decision.

Cancellations:

  • Please notify us 24 hours in advance or you will be charged the for the appointment time.

Payment:

  • Please pay for your student massage before your session.
  • The $25.00 client fee is used to offset the school’s operational expenses.
  • No portion of your fee can go to students, as per Louisiana Law.

Tipping:

  • No tipping, cash, or gifts may be given to student massage therapists, as per Louisianan Law, which forbids tipping until a massage therapist license is received.
  • Your honest evaluation is the best tip.

The Clinic Area:

  • The student who provides your massage will escort you to the massage school clinic area.
  • Our student clinic area consists of 6 semiprivate client areas.
  • Please keep conversations to a minimum.
  • The student clinic supervisor will observe part of the massage since our massage school clinic is a living classroom.

Appropriate Behavior:

  • No sexual innuendo or suggestive behavior is permitted. Such behavior will terminate your student massage session immediately.

Draping:

  • You may leave on undergarments or wear a bathing suit.
  • You will have a full sheet drape.
  • Please disrobe and cover yourself with the drape.
  • Each area of your body will be undraped and re-draped as needed.
  • Areas of your body that are not part of the massage will never be undraped.

Lubricants:

  • Professional quality massage oils, lotions, creams, and gels are used.
  • If you are sensitive to any of these, or to certain fragrances, please notify your student massage therapist before the session begins.

After Your Visit:

  • Expect to feel unusually relaxed.
  • Massage therapy can also help establish good sleep patterns.
  • You may receive more than one massage a week.
  • Drink plenty of water to help those toxins that are stimulated flush their way through your system.
